Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" Cicciu

Gerald "Jerry" Cicciu
A life well lived! President of Counterpulsation, visionary, dog whisperer and entrepreneur, Gerald (Jerry) Cicciu passed away on April 28th, 2021 with his wife holding his hand at Leesburg Regional Hospital in Florida. Jerry came into this world on July 22, 1943 in Boston, MA. as the son of Joseph and Agnes Cicciu. He graduated from Newton South in 1961. He attended college for about two years and then ventured into the business sector. His passion for the medical industry became apparent when he worked on the marketing and sales of the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP). He met his wife Joan Vitello in a surgical ICU when he was the International Business Manager of Kontron Inc. He then went on after several other roles in the medical industry to become the co-owner and President and CEO of Counterpulsation (a day to day leasing of medical equipment). His partner Eva Colette and Jerry provided a wonderful service to patients in hospitals and doctors’ offices for the past 30 years. He was named on two patents for medical devices during his career and was a visionary for new applications for existing devices.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years and soul mate Joan Vitello-Cicciu, his brother John Cicciu and sister in-law Mary of Cotuit, MA. along with his three adult children Wendy Hornung and Kirk (Spouse) of Lafayette Louisiana, John Richard (Ritchie) and Lesa (Spouse) Cicciu of Boynton Beach Florida and H. Gregory (Greg) and Kimball (Spouse) Cicciu of Golden Colorado and by his stepdaughter Renee and Jamie (Spouse) Pianka of Hudson, MA. He has many grandchildren (Celea, Riory, Mekayla, Danielle, Mike, Chris, Tom, Erica and Shireena ) and several great-grandchildren Grayson, Cole and Leona who adored him and will never forget the treasure hunts, pontoon boat rides on the lake, fishing adventures, card games, story-telling and his favorite child spoiler Oreos with chocolate milk!

Jerry’s love for animals especially dogs was profound. His surviving dog Max accompanied him to work, restaurants, car trips, and outdoor sporting events. He even tried to take him on the golf course. Jerry loved flying as a private pilot, fishing, archery and playing golf in his later years.

A memorial service and celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at the end of June. An Eventbrite invitation will be sent to close family and friends. In lieu of flowers etc., a donation to the American Association of Critical Care Nurses in California entitled “Honoring the Human Spirit in memory of Jerry Cicciu” has been set up. To make a gift to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses honoring the human spirit in Jerry's memory, please visit www.aacn.org/jerry-cicciu or mail to: Jerry Cicciu Memorial, c/o Development Office, AACN, 27071 Aliso Creek Road, Aliso Viejo CA 92656.

Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home of Leesburg, Florida.
