Sylvia had a career in banking for 32 years, all in Sumter County, with her final position as branch manager in Webster. She was very active in her community as a Girl Scout leader, Women’s Club and Webster Civic Club member. She was a band mom and band booster member for the South Sumter School bands. She loved attending the Linden Cemetery yearly picnic and helped organize the annual Webster High alumni gatherings held during the annual Webster Cemetery picnic. She was also instrumental in establishing the history for the Legacy Hall of past Webster High graduates, which is housed at Webster Elementary School.
Sylvia loved to travel. She visited all 50 states as well as traveling to Europe, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. She was on a trip when the 9/11 tragedy occurred. She and her travelling companions were stranded in the state of Washington and because of flight cancellations and other considerations wound up buying a vehicle just to get home.
