Obituary

Shirley Ann Sayre died suddenly, after a short illness, on January 5, 2020, leaving behind many heartbroken family and friends. To Shirley, acquaintances were friends and friends were family which is why most only knew her as Momma or Granny.

Born on July 5, 1944, Shirley was every bit the firecracker her birthday predicted. Her zest for life touched everyone she met. While small in stature, Shirley commanded a room. She could instill attention more than any drill sergeant her grandsons met, and could celebrate with more vivacious dancing than those half her age. Shirley loved adventure, was most often found laughing, and loved having the last word in any argument. Shirley’s favorite times and favorite adventures involved her family and she loved them with every breath and with every ounce of everything she had.

Shirley leaves behind her daughters: Bonita Mcleod and Angela Nuss (Gary). Grandchildren: Daniel Dozier (Ciarra Jackson); Shelia Mcleod (Anthony Rodriguez); Michelle Mcleod; Christopher Wilson (Alyssa); Andrew Wilson (Hailey); five great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Brother Kenny Cain (Linda). Extended family and many, many friends.

Shirley’s family invites you to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 11, 2020. A viewing will be from 1 to 1:30 pm, and services will begin at 2 pm at Beyers Funeral Home, 1123 W. Main St., Leesburg, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Shirley Sayre’s name to the Humane Society of Lake County Florida. 16435 McKinley Rd., Umatilla, FL 32784.

Aunt Shirley was like a second mother to me when I was a little guy growing up.She used to take my cousin Bonnie and I to the Drive Inn Theater all the time and I can still remember lots of the movies we saw still to this day. As we started getting a little older she used to take us for rides way out in the country even one time I remember way out towards Buckeye Lake and let us drive her car by ourselves I think it was a blue Mustang. Those are just couple of many, great times aunt Shirley spent with us when I was younger. Fun memories that I’ll never forget and will be with me for ever. I’ll miss you aunt Shirley
Love you Rick 😢

Our hearts are with you all at this difficult time. I never knew Momma in person, but through stories and anecdotes shared from Angi, I felt like I knew her
