Kenneth Wayne Britt, of The Villages, passed away November 19, 2019. He was born June 5, 1935 in Marshall, Texas to the late Floyd W. and Millie J. Harp Britt. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Marie Vovk Britt, daughter Debra Britt Horn and husband Walker of Arlington, Texas, daughter Janice Britt Woods of Tallahassee, Florida, three grandsons, Nathan Horn and wife Jennifer, Corbin Horn, and Cayden Woods and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters, Eunice, Jewel Jones, Pauline Williams, Aubrey, Gene, Arthur, Curtis and Galen.

Ken attended school in Marshall, Texas and graduated from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. He was a former member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Welding Society, American Ordnance Association, Association of American Railroads, American Legion, Rotary Club of Orange, Texas and served as a supervisor to youths in Junior Achievement. He was a member of the New Covenant United Methodist Church and a member of the Alabama Alumni Association.

He served on active military duty with the United States Marine Corps for four years. He was assigned to the 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division and later served as a Drill Instructor at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in California. After release from active duty he served four years inactive duty with the Marine Corps Reserve stationed in New Orleans.

His working career included twenty years of Mechanical Drafting and Project Engineering in the field of solid propellant ballistic missile engines, heavy metal fabricating industry specializing in rail tank cars and pressure vessels and almost twenty years in senior management. He retired in 2001 as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Allrail Services, Ltd in the Houston, Texas area.

In retirement he played golf, bowled, fished and had several hobbies.

The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers of Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving and comforting presence over the past four months.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 11, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of New Covenant United Methodist Church, 3470 Woodridge Drive, The Villages, with inurnment to follow in the church Serenity Garden Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to New Covenant United Methodist Church in Ken’s memory.
