Richard “Dick” Dale Jean, 87, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Tully, New York, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019. Dick was born on February 25, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts and was the son of the late Harold Jean and Phyllis (Blake) Jean. He was a graduate of Syracuse University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He served in the United States Navy and was deployed aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge during the Korean War. He owned and operated Jean’s Decorations in Syracuse until 1980 and thereafter worked for the Legal Division of Onondaga County Department of Social Services until his retirement. Dick married Patricia (Kinney) Jean in 1958 and shared a wonderful life with her, traveling, dancing, and enjoying theatre performances until her passing in 2000. Together, Dick and Pat worked with local social services and opened their home to numerous foster children over the years, as well as sponsored foreign exchange students and families in need. Dick enjoyed fishing and hunting, was an active outdoorsman, and was dedicated to environmental conservation. He was a member of the Tully Lodge 896 of Free Masons, several theatre organizations, including the Onondaga Hillplayers and Dryden Footlighters, and numerous Audubon societies, for many years. Dick is survived by his children, Robert Jean of Oneida, New York, Thomas Jean (Mary) of Hague, Virginia, Daniel Jean (Brenda) of Tully, New York, Melissa Jean of Syracuse, New York, Jennifer Trexler of Apulia Station, New York, and Elizabeth Peacock of Queens, New York, as well as seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his partner of many years, Barbara Nielsen, of Leesburg, Florida. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Tully Community Church, 5872 Meeting House Road, Tully. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Precious Dreams Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing necessities and comfort services to foster and homeless children, at 116 East 27th Street, 10th Floor, New York, New York 10016. Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory, Lady Lake, FL.
