John Leroy Leininger, Sr., 66, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2019 at his home in Tavares, Florida surrounded by his wife and children. Born on February 11, 1953 in Clermont, Florida, John grew up on Pine Island Lake where he loved to fish with his Grandpa Roy. John graduated from Groveland High School in 1971. While attending Lake-Sumter Community College, he met his wife Patty.

From a very young age John was involved in the citrus industry. Through the years he worked in citrus, construction, mechanics and was always raising a steer in the back pasture along with other livestock. For 20+ years, John taught Hunters Education programs for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. His efforts helped to continue the heritage of hunting in Florida by developing safe, responsible and knowledgeable hunters.
John is preceded in death by his parents Bobby and Lorene Leininger and grandparents Roy and Ruby Leininger. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Patricia, daughters Jennifer Collins (Sean) and Erin Renae, son Lee and grandson Michael John Collins. Sister Marjorie Berry (Rick), brothers Chester (Kerri) and Henry along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Wildwood Church of Christ, 114 Cleveland Ave, Wildwood, FL 34785 on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11 a.m. with a reception immediately following in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Groveland Church of Christ, 530 Howey Rd, Groveland, FL 34736, Cub Scout Pack 1540 Fairfax, VA (www.pack1540.com) or a Boy Scout Troop of your choosing.
