Alexander “Alex” Ogilvie, III, 77, passed away peacefully July 1, 2019 at Cornerstone Hospice in the Villages (where he was previously the President for the Board of Hospice of Lake & Sumter Co). He and his wife Madge, of 54 years, have resided on 5 acres just outside of Weirsdale since July 4, 1981.

Alex was born in Augusta, GA and moved to Leesburg, FL when he was 12, later graduating from Leesburg High School, class of 1960. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, in the early 1960s. He spent his career in Financing. Spending 25 years of banking in Sumter County, managing various branches in Wildwood, Florida.
Alex was very active in community service in both Lake and Sumter counties, serving on roughly 18 different Boards and doing volunteer work. At the time of his passing he was still actively involved with Lake Sumter Children’s Advocacy Center in Leesburg, Head Usher for the 4:00 pm mass at St Timothy’s, as well as a member of the Pastoral Counsel, and was a Life member Sumter County Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to Madge, his loving wife of 54 years, Alex is survived by his son Alex “Zandy” Ogilvie IV, his wife Pam, and grandson Alex Ogilvie V; his daughter Karen Cihoski, her husband Ed “Ski”, granddaughter Breana Ethridge, her husband Ty, and great-granddaughter Easton Ethridge; his sister Joan McGlotten and brother James Ogilvie.
A Mass will be held at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, Lady Lake, FL on July 22, 2019 at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception at the Parish Hall. Military Honors will be rendered by the Lady Lake American Legion Post 347. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery of Bushnell, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Lake Sumter Children’s Advocacy Center, 300 S. Canal St., Leesburg, FL 34748 or to St. Vincent de Paul at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.
