Obituary

Jesse Edwin Perkins, 73, died of natural causes at his home in Leesburg, Florida on May 10, 2019.
Jesse was born in Cooperstown, NY on May 24, 1945 and grew up at Lake View Cabins on Canadarago Lake where he was an accomplished water skier during his teen years. Jesse graduated from Richfield Springs Central School in 1963. He was a varsity football player and a highly ranked wrestler in the 127 lb. weight class in high school.
Jesse served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1963 until 1967. He was an electrician on the U.S.S. LaSalle and completed tours of the Caribbean and the Mediterranean Seas.
After the Navy Jesse worked in the Montgomery Ward store in Herkimer, NY for many years, becoming the Appliance Department Manager and later the Automotive Department Manager before moving to Florida in 1985. He was a little league coach, pop warner football coach and a proud leader of the ADAPT chapter in Richfield Springs.
Before retiring to Leesburg he lived in Orlando, FL and worked at Montgomery Ward, K-Mart, and as a fork lift salesman. He was a passionate supporter of the University of Florida football team.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Donna Dow Perkins, originally from Unadilla, NY; three children: Jesse Edwin (Tina) Perkins II of Tampa FL, Robin (Steve) Stroich of Middleburg, FL and Kerri (Tony) Shumpert of Satellite Beach, FL; three beloved grandchildren Hannah, Jackson, and Katharine Grace and several nieces and nephews. His two siblings also survive: Larry (Felice Clark) Perkins of Liverpool, NY, and Debbie (Phil) Jones of Arlington, VA.
Mr. Perkins will be cremated. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions could be sent to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or American Lung Association.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved in death is never easy. I would like to share something with you that I believe will give you comfort it is found in the Bible at Revelation 21:4 it reads “ And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more. Neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” This can give you comfort to know that the pain you are feeling is temporary. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Jess made working at Montgomery Ward fun. From wheeling and dealing Cabbage Patch dolls to the challenge of managing Shorty and Merrill in the Auto Department, Jess was my partner and friend in Herkimer NY, and over the years we shared many fun times and watched each other's family grow and become friends as well. Jess loved all of his family, and our family became "vacation partners" with Jess, his brother, and of course his children . We had great times with our families in the Thousand Islands, as well as in Richfield Springs. Jess made me laugh, because he was so quick to laugh as well. We had good times together, at work and at play, and loved Jess and Donna and Kerry and Robin and Jess (and Jess' mom), as we loved our own family. We will all miss Jesse Perkins.
