Mr. Paul I. Smith, 96, of Umatilla, formerly of Leesburg, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019. Born in Weare, New Hampshire, he moved to Leesburg in 1946. He later moved to Umatilla in 2015. He was the owner of Paul I. Smith Construction and P and A Crane Service. After retiring from his career in construction, he worked for Beyers Funeral Home in Astor. He was a glider pilot serving in the Army/Air Force in World War II. He was a former Trustee of the Webster United Methodist Church and was a Life Member of the Elks Club.
Survivors include his son, Timothy Smith, Tampa, FL; daughter: Peggy (Doug) Hasley, Umatilla; grandchildren: Mandy (Ryan) Strem, Eric (Tina) Hasley, and great grandchildren: Natalie Strem, Emma Strem and Ella Hasley, all of Umatilla, FL. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Helen H. Smith and his son, Paul I. Smith, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March13, 2019 at the Beyers Funeral Home, Umatilla with Pastor Brooks Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Leesburg. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
